IV.5 - A Democrat's Confession

You finally pined me down. No, I didn't vote for Obama. But I didn't vote for McCain either. He was a neo-con. The debates didn't even interest me. Who cares about health care? I am young. I eat vegetables. In my opinion there wasn't any difference between the two candidates in this years non-choice. I disdain how the authorities try to manipulate the political game by giving us two evils and asking us to vote for the lesser of them. I will not be manipulated by fear, whether that is fear of war, terror, health care, or economic crisis. I don't support the Republican party. Whoever they are. They are just as likely to take away our liberty and give themselves a raise as any other corrupt political statist organization.

A democracy does not function unless people have access to their representative politicians. In a country where corporate lobbyists have more access to representatives then the people we will always suffer under a corporate dictatorship. If James wants to open a cabinet shop, he has to risk his own money. Will the government give him a tax break? No. Will they build utilities and infrastructure right up to his shop? No. But if Wal-Mart comes to town this is exactly what the government does for them. They steel from James to give to Wal-Mart to put James' cabinet shop out of business and then take his children away for giving them healthful raw milk and home schooling them.

This is what the original Boston Tea Party was about. They where protesting a multi-national cooperation called the East India Tea Company who got a TAX CUT from the English King that made tea CHEAPER for people to buy in the colonies. That would have wiped out the small businesses up and down the coast. They where protesting the government giving TAX CUTS to multi-national corporations. The same thing today would be if Wal-Mart got a huge tax credit where they could undercut small business everywhere. Or a huge multi-national bank getting a bailout, basically a reward for poor business practices. Again, we see that the government punishes hard work and innovation while they reward bad behavior.

My position is decidedly non-partisin. I believe that the crisis we are in today was started by FDR and is only being wrapped up today by the Bush / Obama tag team presidency.

That said, these are the reasons I did not vote Democrat. I grant that there are plenty of good reasons to vote Democrat, these are simply the reasons I didn't.

I voted Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse.

I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

I voted Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as I am not offended by it.

I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

I don't believe in Global Warming but still think it is best to care for the earth. Anything that is good for the environment probably saves money too. Like not wasting energy. It is simply common sense.

I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves or even have enough money to create jobs. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit, mostly to the unemployed.

I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

I protested the Bush Presidency on a great many things, Patriot Act, suspension of Habeas Corpus, Military Commissions Act, No Child Left Behind, deficit spending, Real ID, Warrantless Wire Tapping, Immunity for Telecommunication companies that participated in Warrantless Wire Tapping, etc. Obama has not worked to undo any of these, in fact he voted for the Warrantless spying while still in the Senate.

The problem most evidenced here is that both Democrats and Republicans have believed the lie that the other party are filled with horrible evil people that will destroy this country while their own party is fighting to uphold great and wonderful principles. The reality is that any time you give a human being the kind of power found in Washington D.C., corruption will find its way into the dealings. When comparing corruption, both parties send corrupt politicians to Washington more than a majority of the time.

The Constitution of the United States is a document drafted by the people that defines and restrains the Federal Government. The Tenth Amendment is explicitly stating that if it's not designated by the Constitution as a Federal duty, then it will be handled by the States or the People. Over time our Federal Government has expanded their job and there power to the point of taking over completely. We don't want this. The Federal Governments job in the beginning was:

  1. Keep a standing army, to protect our country and its borders.
  2. Build and keep roads.
  3. Charge tariffs on imported goods for the tax so the government had an income.
  4. Keep and protect our Constitution.
  5. Coin our money.
  6. Run and protect the mail.

I believe that was about it. But look at today. They outsource military to private contractors, Do not protect our borders, Want to outsource our main roads to Spain, Put bulletins out that say look out for folks that support the constitution, they may be enemies. They gave our money to a private bank (The Federal Reserve) and instituted the income tax needed to pay the profit to these crooks, Now they want to cut back on mail delivery and have talked about phasing it out to private contractors. So doesn't it look like their not doing their intended job? What do they want to do? It looks like they want to run our private lives and make laws anexing duties and powers that should belong to the states. They want to be everywhere they don't belong.

Furthermore, the rights outlined in the Constitution are not GRANTED by the Constitution, they are given by our Creator, and reserved to the individual, and not the Federal Government. Any government, if it trespasses on the rights of the individual must be dealt with by any means necessary, including revolution. Rights are not collective, they are individual, and they must be defended by each one of us.
